Saturday Snapshot-The Invasion

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce @ At Home With Books

Periodical Cicadas have invaded my hometown. I am surrounded by these noisy little insects and they are starting to become a nuisance.

It’s not so much the noise that bothers me but the fact that you cannot leave your car door open for more than twenty seconds without one or two or ten flying inside. Oh, and you might as well forget about bringing in the shopping without incident because one or two or ten seem to have a knack for finding their way into your bags. And it is useless to try to sit in the garden with a book and cupper because they dive-bomb you the moment you step outside.

Their shell’s dot the tree limbs, the siding, the privacy fence, the roof of the potting shed. I am fairly sure that one could easily fill a ten gallon bucket with the shells that are littering my back garden.

Have these annoying lovely creatures invaded your hometown?

Best Wishes,

Angela Renee

Oh, I haven't had the displeasure of their company, but now I'll be on the alert!

Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST

Some years they are unbearable here, but it is mostly the noise, they don't usually invade my space! This has been a blissfully quiet year. Maybe next year will be better for you!!

We get tons of cicadas in South Texas, but they tend to stay in the trees. The bigger problem here is the Annual Cricket Invasion. Gives me the creeps. And in East Texas you get what I've always called June Bugs; those guys will dive-bomb your head when you walk outside. :)

Here's my Saturday Snapshot for the week. Happy Saturday!

I can't say that I have noticed them, and I'm sure I would. Keep calm and carry on?

Great picture by the way.

Oh my goodness! I had no idea they could be so invasive. We only ever hear them around here, but hardly ever see them.

I have heard of them (my husband experienced them a few years ago while in DC) but I've never seen them before. They don't sound like much fun.

We don't have them here, so I've only come across them when they are mentioned in novels. I'd love to know more about them. My Saturday Snapshot is very brief this week but it's sad - a site where lepers once lived http://goo.gl/TkmQ7

We've also been known to have bumper years for cicada's. After the last one, we researched them a little more to find out why some years they were everwhere and some years almost non-existent.
Apparently (in Australia) they have a 7 year cycle. The fact that you have a bumper crop this year mneas that 7 years ago your local climatic conditions were just right for the laying of eggs.
I believe that the nymphs can also stay underground until a good year occurs for them to come out.
We love making 'brooches' out of the empty cicada shells - the feet stick to your shirt in a lovely delicate fashion!

I don't think we have cicadas here in Northern California. Do they come only during summer?

They were making their usual rackets last week, but I haven't noticed them so much yesterday and today. Maybe they're done for the year here in Indiana....

Here's my Snapshot.
