The Child They Didn't Expect by Yvonne Lindsay

Surprise—it's a baby!

After their steamy vacation fling, Alison Carter knows Ronin Marshall is a skilled lover and a billionaire businessman. But a father…who hires her New Zealand baby-planning service? This divorcée has already been deceived once; Ronin's now the last man she wants to see.

But he must have Ali. Only she can rescue Ronin from the upheaval of caring for his orphaned nephew…and give Ronin more of what he shared with her during the best night of his life. But something is holding her back. And Ronin will stop at nothing to find out what secrets she's keeping!

This was a light romance that had a few heavy points.

After meeting in Hawaii, Alison and Ronin end up in bed together although a middle-of-the-night phone call has him on a plane back to New Zealand without out so much as a note.  Alison is more than a little surprised and ticked off when she learns that Ronin hired her company to fit out a nursery.

Although all is not what it seems. When she discovers that Ronin is the child’s legal guardian and not the baby’s father, she slowly starts to fall in love with both of them. Just as they start getting settled into a new life together, Ronin feels Alison pulling away and he’s determined to show her just how much she means to him.

I really liked this book and wished it would have been longer—186 pages just wasn’t enough when the characters were as engaging as Ronin and Alison.

Both Alison and Ronin were likable. Ronin was a steady and determined hero who was willingly to give up everything to care for his orphaned nephew and to show Alison how much he cared about her.  Alison had been hurt by her ex-husband so she was a little wary about getting involved with Ronin at first. She’s also carrying around a secret that affects her relationship.

The chemistry between Ronin and Alison sizzled off the pages and the romance was very well-built and sensual.

The plot flowed easily and before I knew it, my tea had grown cold and the book was finished.  While parts of the book were completely predictable, there was a plot twist that totally shocked me.

Overall, I liked this one; I just wished it had been a bit longer. It was a quick little read which I read it in under an hour. This would be the perfect book to slip in your bag for break time.
