Tempted by Mr. Write by Sara Hantz

After losing out on a plum assignment, a romance book conference is the last place journalist Sheridan Farlow wants to be. Love is a myth—like flattering changing room mirrors—and she has the past relationships to prove it. Her editor wants a story? Fine. She’ll write an entire exposé...only it doesn't go quite according plan.

Bernard “Mac” Mackenzie is something of an anomaly in the romance-writing world—a man who writes romance and believes in it. And until he met Sheridan, Mac’s never felt anything close to the love he writes about. He needs more of her. In his arms, and in his bed.

Their attraction is explosive; even as Sheridan’s cynical side battles her growing feelings for Mac. But can she handle writing a biting exposé with an exposed heart on the line?

Tempted By Mr. Write was a super quick little read.  While it was a fun read, it left me scratching my and wondering if that was really all there was to the story.

Here’s what was going on. Sheridan’s a journalist who is pretty ticked off because her assignment of covering the presidential summit was swapped for covering a romance book convention. She doesn’t believe in love and she definitely hasn’t picked up a romance book. Mac writes romances under the name of B.A. Mackenzie. While his books all are hearts, love, and romance, he’s never actually found the stuff he writes about. Not even with his ex-wife. But Sheridan’s caught his eye and after a quick tumble into bed, neither wants to let the other go. Although when Sheridan starts jumping to conclusions, there’s a chance she may go through with the exposé she was going to write.

So, this one had the potential to be great a read. Did I like it? Yes. Did it live up to its potential? Sadly, no. I started reading this one expecting this one to be a bit longer than an exceedingly-short-read-in-30-minutes novella, so I was a little disappointed that it was so short.

Because of how short it was, everything happened at turbo speed. So the novella followed the meet, shag, instant love formula in a 24 hour timeframe, and while it was fun and flirty development suffered because of it.

You get enough of the characters to like both Mac and Sheridan but not enough to get a sense of who they were. Avenues that I thought would have been explored, such as Mac’s divorce and Sheridan’s daddy-issues, were mentioned then glossed over. And while they did have a chemistry, it was never really fully brought to life because of how short the book was

I’m a bit picky when it comes to journalist, and in the middle of the book Sheridan did have me going don’t be an idiot, but this was one handled nicely. Also, I was kind of glad to finally have Las Vegas read where no one woke up accidentally married.

Overall, if you’re looking for a light 30 minute read with a quick little instant love romance, then this is the book for you.

How short is too short for a novella?
