The Single Undead Moms Club by Molly Harper & Giveaway

In the next book in Molly Harper’s Half Moon Hollow paranormal romance series, Libby (a widow-turned-vampire) struggles with her transition, and finds out it sucks to be the only vampire member of the PTA…

Widow Libby Stratton arranged to be turned into a vampire after she was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. It wasn’t the best idea she’s ever had, but she was desperate—she’s not about to leave her seven-year-old son to be raised by her rigid, overbearing in-laws.

On top of post-turning transition issues, like being ignored at PTA meetings and other mothers rejecting her son’s invitations for sleepovers, Libby must deal with her father-in-law’s attempts to declare her an unfit mother, her growing feelings for Wade—a tattooed redneck single dad she met while hiding in a closet at Back to School Night—and the return of her sire, who hasn’t stopped thinking about brave, snarky Libby since he turned her.

Yay!!! Another Half-Moon Hollow full-length novel from my favorite go to paranormal author!!!!!

When a new Half-Moon Hollow novel arrives, I refuse to answer the door or the phone until I’ve finished it. Seriously, I burrow into my favorite chair with a massive pot of hot tea (which usually goes cold because I become so wrapped up in the book’s snarky yumminess) and refuse to interact with the living world until I’ve read every last word.

Here’s what’s going on. When Libby is diagnosed with late-stage cancer, rather than leave her young son to be raised by her in-laws, she decides to become a vampire. While advertising on-line for a sire wasn’t the brightest idea, it worked and now she needs a crash course on controlling her blood-thirst while her in-laws battle her for custody of her son and she prepares to become an undead member of the PTA. Just to make life more interesting, a single-dad (who happens to have that bad boy biker appeal) has caught her eye and there’s also a slightly unsettling attraction to her sire.

Okay, so this one was a little slow at the start. It was still intriguing but just a tad bit sluggish although things take off at full tilt when Wade enters the plot.

This one was a tad bit different from the previous Half-Moon Hollow books, yet it worked. While humor and snark abound, there’s also the fact the Libby is fighting for custody of her son and there’s a tiny bit of a love triangle thrown in as well.

I liked Libby. She’s a newbie vamp, she’s also a widow raising her young son. Her in-laws leave a lot to be desired, honestly, I’m surprised she didn’t just bite them for the heck of it. She’s definitely a sassy heroine although when she was human, she was a bit meek and didn’t really have the energy to stand up to her in-laws so it was really nice watching Libby come into her own.

Wade has to be one of my favorite humans that Molly Harper’s created. He totally has that bad boy biker appeal, but there’s so much more to him than meets the eye. He’s a single-father, hard worker, and not afraid to go up against Libby—he’s also not afraid to date her.

“Whatever crazy-ass evil thing you’re planning to do to my bike, just back away and do somethin’ else. Crack my kneecap or do the spleen-rippin’ thing, but just leave the bike alone.”

“I wasn’t going to hurt your precious bike,” I shot back as Wade dropped the backpack into a saddlebag slung over his bike’s seat.

“You were thinkin’ about it,” he said, pointing his finger at me.”

“I—I was not,” I insisted. “I couldn’t afford to replace it, so I was fighting down the urge.”

He quirked an eyebrow and actually smiled at me. A real, sincere, mockery-free smile that actually made me want to smile back. I bit back the urge, but it was there. “So why are you standin’ here, eyein’ my bike in a suspicious fashion?”

“Because you parked it so freaking close to my van that I couldn’t even get into it.”

“Well, I only parked so close because I got distracted by the ‘big books’ sticker!” he exclaimed.

“What?” I cried.

“It was funny!”

Finn, Libby’s mysterious sire who seems to be haunting her dreams, is definitely a sketchy vamp. He even kind of makes Dick Cheney, the vampire, a little off-kilter, so he definitely not the type Libby should be getting mixed up with. Yet there’s something drawing Libby to him and she really needs to work out if it’s because he’s her sire or there’s something else there.

Watching Libby get back into the dating world was interesting. When her husband was alive they didn’t really have a solid relationship so I enjoyed watching her find amazing chemistry and attraction.

While there are two men that Libby’s attracted to, the book—even though she has two men to choose from—didn’t really have that ‘love triangle’ feel to it. Wade and Finn are as different as night and day. I would honestly categorize this as more attraction vs. mild curiosity rather than an actual love triangle.

Danny (Libby’s son) and Harley (Wade’s son) added so much fun and humor to this book. So, be warned, this book does contain a healthy dose of children and their wild antics.

While Dick and Jane constantly pop up throughout the book, several other Half-Moon Hollow residents show up as well and I really enjoyed getting to catch up with them as well.

Overall, while The Single Undead Moms Club was a bit different from Harper’s norm, it was still a fun read worthy to grace your Half-Moon Hollow collection. You will enjoy sinking your teeth into the twists, turns, and snarky banter.
