Arrow's Hell by Chantal Fernando

Her USA Today Bestseller Dragon’s Lair got the engines revved…Now Chantal Fernando kicks her Wind Dragons Motorcycle Club series into high gear with a new novel that goes deep inside a hard-driving world where the rules, like hearts, are made to be broken.

Anna is a beautiful PhD student whose older brother is a notorious badass in the Wind Dragons MC. Of course she loves Rake, who’s looked out for her since their troubled childhood. But he’s still protecting her—to the extreme. She can’t make a move without a Wind Dragons motorcycle escort. Potential boyfriends flee, for fear of her ass-kicking sibling. And Rake’s made it clear that his biker brothers are trouble of the worst kind and strictly off-limits. But one of these tattooed bad boys has already pierced her heart: Arrow, the bearded, darkly brooding rider with the body of a Greek god and eyes that betray a wounded soul. He’s sent to whisk her off campus on his thundering steel stallion. And when Anna wraps her arms around his rock-hard torso, it’s too late for caution: she’ll ride as far as the road takes them—unless Rake stops Arrow in his flight…

First, I want to start off my saying that you can read this one as a standalone. Although, to fully understand Arrow and the hurt he’s been though, you definitely need to read Dragon’s Lair first.

So, five years have passed since Dragon’s Lair (book 1) in the series ended, Arrow’s out of prison, and he’s still reeling from the death of someone he cared about. There’s a whole lot of hurt and blame going on in his heart and head and while he’s attracted and drawn to Anna, he doesn’t want to drag her into his messed up life and see her hurt or worse killed because of him. Although Anna is not taking no for an answer and she’s determined to help Arrow heal no matter how hard he tries to push her away.

I loved Arrow. My heart ached for him and I so wanted to see him heal his hurts. He seemed a bit more dangerous than Dex (book 1) and that totally worked for him and made his HEA so much more worthwhile.

Anna had some questionable moments toward the end that had me shaking my head but she eventually got her crap together. And while I occasionally thought she was doing things just to rile everybody up for the sake of having something to do, I found that I liked her. She knew she wanted Arrow and she was determined to make him see that he was worthy of her love.

Arrow and Anna had great chemistry. They also had a lot of sexual tension because of their one-step-forward-two-steps-back relationship. And I have to give Arrow credit, he fought it until he couldn’t fight it any longer.

I really liked Arrow’s Hell. This was a lot grittier, edgier, and emotional than the first book and that had to do with what Arrow went through and how he decided to cope with Mary’s death. Given that he had a lot going on, I was hoping that the book would have been from his POV, and while there was two snippets from him, it was from Anna’s POV and it drew slightly from the impact.

While I enjoyed this book, it suffered a bit from repetition. There were times when it seemed like Anna mirrored Faye from the first book. It wasn’t enough to take away from the book, but I would have liked to have seen Anna’s character developed a tad bit more in her own right rather than parroting the character from before.

Normally I’m quick to figure out the twists and turns of books, but this one took me by surprise and I was completely shocked.

Overall, this was another great edition to a series that I’m officially hooked on. I cannot wait to read Tracker’s End.
