It’s so not going to happen…Death Comes To Pemberley by P.D. James

In their six years of marriage, Elizabeth and Darcy have forged a peaceful, happy life for their family at Pemberley, Darcy’s impressive estate. Her father is a regular visitor; her sister Jane and her husband, Bingley, live nearby; the marriage prospects for Darcy’s sister, Georgiana, are favorable. And preparations for their annual autumn ball are proceeding apace. But on the eve of the ball, chaos descends. Lydia Wickham, Elizabeth’s disgraced sister who, with her husband, has been barred from the estate, arrives in a hysterical state—shrieking that Wickham has been murdered.  Plunged into frightening mystery and a lurid murder trial, the lives of Pemberley’s owners and servants alike may never be the same.

It’s so not going to happen…Death Comes To Pemberley by P.D. James
Yeah, so as the header stated…finishing Death Comes To Pemberley is so not going to happen.
I’ve tried and tried and tried to get into this book but it moves at snail speed. Every time I try to read it, I end up falling asleep. I even watched the movie hoping it would make me want to finish the book…but sadly, that is not the case.
I normally devour anything Austen-related, but this one is a no go and I was a bit disappointed because I have read and loved several Austen-inspired mysteries.
Overall, this was is not my cuppa tea. The movie is leaps and bounds better and that isn’t saying much considering the casting was questionable and the characters were so unrecognizable in their action.

So, lovelies, when do you give up on a book?
Do you have a certain page number or do you just go with your gut?

I haven't watched the movie yet, but I've put it off since I haven't heard any enthusiasm for it. I finished the book, but it was just so-so for me.

Oh that's a shame. Definitely time to move on if it's putting you to sleep.

I was really hoping that this was going to be a good one. It just didn't work out for me. I might pick it up again if I have insomnia. lol

I'm a huge Jane Austen fan, but I think there have been so many authors writing 'fan fiction' that some of it is starting to sound the same. I think it's time for a fresh approach.

I think the movie would have been so much better if the cast had been different. Their casting kind of clashed with my opinion of the characters and Elizabeth was way too weak.

I hear ya, a lot of books lately seem to revolve around the Austen world in some way.
